新生儿患上癫痫家长要注意，如果癫痫发作时患儿的口是张开的，家长应迅速用缠裹纱布的压舌板或筷子垫在患儿嘴巴一侧的上、下牙之间，以防止新生儿咬伤舌头。如患儿已经咬紧牙关，不能坚硬物品强行去撬他的嘴，以免其牙齿脱落，阻塞呼吸道，对患者的呼吸造成困难。

新生癫痫患儿的家长要注意在患儿抽搐停止后，要过几分钟、几十分钟甚至几个小时才能恢复正常。在这段时间里，家长可给患儿更换衣裤，并给其换个舒适的环境，让其安静入睡。同时家长对患儿应严格看护，避免一切对癫痫患者造成危险的事项。

家长要注意在孩子病情发作时候移开患儿身旁的硬物，让患儿侧卧，以利于患儿口涎流出，保持患儿的呼吸道通畅。然后将毛巾、衣服、手帕等柔软的东西迅速垫到患儿的头下，解开其上衣领扣。发现患儿要摔倒时，家长应迅速扶住患儿，顺势让其倒下，以防癫痫患者自己倒地摔伤身体。
