(2)根据发作类型选药：药物选择目前主要根据癫痫的发作类型或癫痫综合征的类型选药，不合适的选药甚或加重癫痫发作。

(3)提倡单药治疗：尽量采用单一的抗癫痫药物，80%病例单药治疗满意，剂量从小至大，达到有效治疗剂量，特别是卡马西平、氯硝西泮(氯硝安定)、扑米酮(扑痫酮)及新的抗癫痫药拉莫三嗪、托吡酯等，可减少不良反应。

(4)剂量个体化：同一发作类型或同一药物因个体而异，其治疗剂量应从小剂量开始，结合临床效应，个体化的精细调整。此外，根据药物的半衰期合理安排服药次数，评价达到稳态血药浓度的时间。

(5)换药需逐步过度：当原有抗癫痫药物治疗无效，需换另一种新的抗癫痫药物时，两药交替应有一定时间的过度，逐渐停用原来的药物，避免癫痫复发或出现癫痫持续状态。血浓度监测主要对治疗不满意病例和联合用药病例。
