很多癫痫患者发病时候不能控制自己，家属不可用力度强制压制孩子病发：孩子癫痫(羊角风)发作时，有些家长限制发作在患者抽搐时，用力按压或试图使患者抽搐的肢体恢复平直，造成韧带撕裂、关节脱臼、甚至骨折等损伤。可以将患者头部和身体侧放，同时可放些薄软的东西在头下，让患者慢慢复原，不要强制性的控制患者的身体。

癫痫发作一般具有突然性，很多患者来不及做一些防护措施，造成伤害，这时候有的家长会不断移动孩子，但是移动孩子也是一个误区，当癫痫(羊角风)患者忽然发作倒地时，怕孩子被固体砸到便移动患者。家属可以移开患者周围的危险品，如刀具，暖水瓶等，以免碰伤或烫伤患者，但不要轻易触碰患者。

癫痫发作有时候可能会造成窒息，所以家属可以在患者口中塞入东西，及时清理口中分泌或呕吐，保持呼吸道通畅。但是有些人为防止患者咬伤舌头而强行往患者口中塞入木筷、勺子等。这样有可能导致患者牙齿断裂、松动，如果患者佩戴假牙，强行撬开病人紧闭的嘴还可能导致假牙脱落而误入呼吸道，导致癫痫患者生命安全受到影响。

癫痫可能随时发作，这时候应该保护好患者以免受伤，特别是头部的保护，避免人群围观，保持空气通畅;但是不要用凉水泼，按人中，用针刺：有些人看到病人发作以为用凉水泼可以使其，但凉水的刺激可能导致患者的症状更加严重，导致患者身体功能受到影响，危害患者健康。
