首先，大发作是很可怕的。全身大发作又称全身强直一阵挛发作，孩子表现为忽然失去知觉，有时会先尖叫一声，随之全身僵硬，继而出现四肢有节律的抖动.可伴有类似喘气的呼吸声，患者面色青紫，珏齿紧咬，可能会咬破舌头。偶尔会出现大小便失禁。发作可持续1～3分钟后才缓解。部分孩子在发作后可诉头痛或出现呕吐等;小婴儿发作后可表现出烦躁、哭闹等。这些均属于发作后状态。一般数小时后可自行缓解。注意发病期间不要让患者伤害到自己。

其次，要说的是典型失神发作。典型失神发作表现为孩子忽然动作停止，呼之不应，没有四肢或面部的抽搐动作，一般也不会跌到。手中物体一般不会脱落。可以发现孩子双眼发呆，目光茫然。有时会发现孩子有咂嘴，头轻轻下垂或眼睑抖动等。一般持续数秒或十数秒缓解。有些患者每天可发作数十次甚至上百次，但由于发作形式较为隐蔽且时间短，容易被忽视。在这里提醒家长要注意孩子生活中的细节。

最后，来说一下肌阵挛发作。肌阵挛发作表现为全身或身体某个部位肌肉忽然强烈地闪电样收缩，患儿可表现为忽然点头、弯腰或后仰，或整个身体忽然后仰或侧倾。其特点为发作忽然，时间短暂，1～2秒钟内终止，常造成孩子额头、下颌等处碰伤。由于发作时间短，所以意识障碍经常不易被发现。家长有时会发现孩子忽然"嗵"的一声摔倒在地，很快恢复。之后短时间内反复发作。孩子身上经常伤痕累累。孩子平时的反常状态要引起家长的注意。
