在临床上，大多数抗癫痫药物可以从母亲血液中进人乳汁，在产后24天中测定：苯妥英钠乳汁中浓度远低于母体血液浓度，如果婴儿从乳汁中摄入的药物浓度为0.03-0.47mg/千克体重，那么对婴儿无害。苯巴比妥可以在婴儿血液中蓄积而产生镇静作用，卡马西平在婴儿体内的血液度一般为1.7mg/升，最高可达4.7mg/升，都低于药物起作用的浓度，个别出现药物性肝炎。乙琥胺乳汁中浓度与血浓度相似，婴儿每日摄人量相当于母亲摄入量的60%一100%，可产生镇静作用，或过度兴奋;丙戊酸在乳儿血液中浓度很低，无临床作用。氯硝西泮在母亲乳汁中浓度为血浓度的37%，曾有报道婴儿吸乳后引起呼吸暂停，对新抗癫痫药尚缺乏了解。
