1、在抗癫痫药物治疗过程中，并不推荐常规监测抗癫痫药物的血药浓度。只有当怀疑患者未按医嘱服药或出现药物毒性反应、合并使用影响药物代谢的其他药物以及存在特殊的临床情况(如癫痫持续状体、肝肾疾病、妊娠)等情况时，考虑进行血药浓度监测。

2、选择抗癫痫药物时总的原则：对癫痫发作及癫痫综合征进行正确分类是合理选药的基础。此外还要考虑患者的年龄(儿童、成人、老年人)、性别、伴随疾病以及抗癫痫药物潜在的副作用可能对患者未来生活质量的影响等因素。如婴幼儿患者不会吞服药片，应用糖浆制剂既有利于患儿服用又方便控制剂量。

3、抗癫痫药物治疗应该尽可能采用单药治疗，直到达到有效或最大耐受量。单药治疗失败后，可联合用药。尽量将作用机制不同、很少或没有药物间相互作用的药物配伍使用。合理配伍用药应当以临床效果最好、患者经济负担最轻为最终目标。
