(1)癫痫大发作时呼吸道分泌物较多，易造成呼吸道阻塞或吸入性肺炎。自大发作开始，应将患者头侧向一方，以便分泌物自然流出。专家指出，此外，应将患者衣领及扣子解开，保持呼吸道通畅。

(2)如果发现患者有先兆症状时，应迅速让患者平卧床上，或就近躺在平整的地方。即使来不及做上述安排，发现患者要倒时，应立即扶着患者，顺势让其倒下，防止突然摔倒造成的损伤。

(3)患者强直期头多过度后仰，下颌过张，可造成颈椎压缩性骨折，或下颌脱臼。这时应一手托着患者枕部稍用力，以阻止其颈部过伸，一手托下颌，以对抗其下颌过张。

(4)癫痫大发作抽搐停止后，患者要过一段时间才能恢复正常，这段时间为几分钟、几十分钟或几个小时不等，有些患者处于昏睡状态，只须让其舒适、安静入睡即行。还有一些患者则处于朦胧状态，会出现一些无意识、无目的的冲动、破坏、攻击行为，甚至自伤、自杀、伤人、毁物等。

(5)阵挛期患者四肢肌肉收缩，易造成关节脱臼和四肢擦伤。这时可适当用力按压四肢大关节处(如肩、肘、髋、膝)，限制其抽动幅度。但是不要用力过猛，强行按压，否则会造成骨折或肌肉损伤。

(6)癫痫大发作要将患者裤带解开，取掉假牙。
