2、不规律服药，不少看癫痫病的医生不能根据某一癫痫患者的发作类型，选择适当药物，制定出长远的治疗计划，而是任意加药、减药、换药或停药，造成发作长期不能控制或慢性药物中毒。

4、用药量不够，癫痫患儿个体差异很大，例如近期有一种新的抗癫痫药，在同年龄同样发作类型的小儿中，有的每日用2片即可控制发作，有的小儿每日用6片才能控制发作，也有的每日用8片仍不能控制发作。因此癫痫患者在用药过程中，一定要由家长和医生结合，慢慢摸索每一位癫痫患儿的具体用量，才能更好地控制发作，要服用治疗癫痫病最好的药。

5、治疗不专一，不少家长对自己的癫痫患儿治疗没有坚定信心，到处找偏方、看虚假广告，不能长期固定于某家医院或某个医生，这样下去，由于没有长远计划，所以造成癫痫长期不能控制。

6、药物更换频繁，由于家长治病心切，用一种药还未达到最佳疗效，就要求换药。而有些医生也不了解各种抗癫痫药的药代动力学，用几天或半月无效就换另一种，这样换来换去，当然不可能控制癫痫发作了。

7、多药联合使用，由于急于控制发作，不少家长或医生，一开始就多种抗癫痫药联合应用，这样很可能引起几种药物的相互反应，从而降低药物疗效，同时还会造成慢性药物中毒，癫痫病的治疗时间长是有原因的。

8、其他，有部分癫痫患者因为有先天脑发育异常、后天脑软化或者有遗传因素，也是造成长期不能控制的原因。
