对临床上确实无症状而仅在脑电图(EEG)上出现异常放电者，不称之为癫痫发作。因为癫痫是脑的疾患，身体其他部位的神经元(如三叉神经元或脊髓前角神经元)异常和过度放电不属于癫痫发作。

那么，癫痫持续状态是指怎样的情况呢?

癫痫治疗专家讲解：癫痫是大脑神经元突发性异常放电，导致短暂的大脑功能障碍的一种慢性疾病。癫痫持续状态或称癫痫状态，是癫痫连续发作之间意识未完全恢复又频繁再发，或发作持续30分钟以上不自行停止。癫痫持续状态是指怎样的情况呢?现在就针对这一类癫痫的出现来进行了解。

癫痫持续状态表现癫痫持续状态是频繁的癫痫发作形成了一个固定的癫痫状态，或连续多次发作，间歇期意识不能够恢复，而且也持续在30分钟以上者。持续状态的发生在症状性癫痫的初期及特发性癫痫而病程在10年以上的病例中较为多见。癫痫持续状态分类癫痫持续状态主要分为全面性发作持续状态和部分性发作持续状态两种类型，其中全面性强直-阵挛发作持续状态和单纯部分性运动发作持续状态最多见。
