当然诊断癫痫病，特别是儿童癫痫病也不是那么简单的，主要步骤是通过病史的采集、体格检查、神经系统检查、实验室检查等几个方面的资料，进行综合分析，看其是否为癫痫发作以及是否符合癫痫的慢性、发作性及复发性等特点，同时要除外一些与之相类似的病证。其中，典型的发作过程及脑电图表现是诊断癫痫的主要依据，多种诊断方法中这个是最可靠的。
