西药治疗癫痫能终身服药吗

西药治疗癫痫的原则之一是坚持长期用药，缓慢停药，但不一定都要终身服药。患者确定有效的药物治疗方案后，要遵医嘱，按时按量按疗程坚持服药，直至完全控制发作四年左右后，逐渐减停药物，其减停过程需持续1-2年。逐步减药期间如病情发作，则需恢复原药量继续服用四年控制不发、再依次减停。

倘若合理足量的西药治疗仍不能控制其发作，且出现明显的毒副作用时，也可选择中医中药治疗，用中药逐渐替换西药，同时也不能忽视对有治疗指证的原发病的治疗。

在用中药代替西药的时候也要注意，一定要在医生的指导下换药，还要事先和医生说明具体情况，以前用的是什么西药，用了多长时间等等。
