癫痫大发作

有时发作前几秒钟，可能有先兆，包括耳鸣、看到闪光，或者嗅觉、听觉、味觉上有些特别的感觉。突然失去知觉，四肢及颈部僵硬，继而有节奏地抽搐或全身颤动。发作时，患者经常会咬破舌头，口吐白沫，并且尿湿裤子;面色则正常或转为红色，不像昏厥时那样转为苍白。抽搐停止后，患者仍然失去知觉约半小时。发作之后，可能有一段时间精神错乱，并且感到恹恹欲睡，长达数小时之久。患者可能有一连串抽搐发作，两次发作之间仍然神志不清，此种情况称为癫痫持续状态，极其严重，可以致命。未满六个月大婴儿抽搐发作时，可能误为急性腹痛。

癫痫小发作

这一类癫痫多见于四岁儿童到青春期少年。

发作时患者短暂失去知觉约几秒钟，但不致跌倒，身体也能保持平衡，眼睛可能贬动或震颤不定。患者完全恢复知觉后，并不知道自己曾经暂时失去知觉。

颞叶性癫痫

发作前可能像癫痫大发作一样有先兆，但是症状没有大发作那样显着和严重。患者不会失去知觉或跌倒在地。患者可能有如入幻境的感觉，或生记忆错觉。觉得周围的人和物距离自己很远，或不真实。发作时，患者虽然能跑能说，甚至可以驾驶汽车，正如梦游症一样，但不能跟别人正常沟通。患者可能发脾气或动作粗暴。

杰克逊氏癫痫

抽搐常由一只手、足，或一侧面部开始发作。抽搐可蔓延至身体同一侧的其余肌肉。接着可能失去知觉或发生癫痫大发作。
