治疗癫痫宜从单药治疗开始，长期规律服药，减药过程要慢，按儿童癫痫病发作类型及综合征类型选药，疗效判断要以临床及药物浓度测定为标准，定期复查，注意药物的毒副作用，视具体情况调整药量。单一用药可使大多数病儿在毒性较小的情况下完全控制发作，若儿童癫痫病的治疗是几种药联合应用时，常因药物的相互作用而影响疗效，还可增加药物的毒副作用。对难治性癫痫病，有时需要同时用两种以上的药物，但需在有经验的儿童神经科医师指导下用药。
