首先是非特异性刺激诱发因素所致发作：这类病例常因生理因素、环境因素和性腺功能的影响而诱发癫痫。如有些妇女在经前期的发作较平时频繁，或在经期或在妊娠期间发作，而有些患者的发作与睡眠?觉醒周期有关，或仅在白天，或仅在夜间发作，或仅在睡眠中发作，或在晨醒时发作。其他因素如高热、饮酒、过度换气、代谢紊乱、睡眠不足等，均可引起某些癫痫患者发病。所以患者要保证充足的睡眠。

其次是特异性刺激诱发因素所致发作：对于个别患者来讲，有时仅某种特别别因素才能促成发作，此类刺激大多属于感觉刺激。患者要多加注意了。

另外常见的有：①听觉刺激;②视觉刺激：如由光源强刺激、闪光刺激等引起的发作(称光敏性癫痫)。目前临床上做脑电图检查时，就是利用这种原理，对受检查者进行刺激，以期诱发发作，从而为临床诊断提供依据。③躯体感觉刺激：即身体某部位受到触觉，或温度觉或关节运动觉的刺激而引起发作;④内脏感觉刺激：如进食后胃的牵张感、腹胀、咳嗽、憋尿、心慌、牙痛、性交等。⑤精神感觉刺激：如强烈情感刺激、惊吓等;这些都是引发此病的原因。

还有一些高级心理活动诱发性癫痫：是反射性癫痫的特殊类型，其诱因不是单纯的视、听或某种特殊刺激，而是包括阅读、书写、绘画、计算、下棋、玩牌等复杂的高级心理活动。所以患者要在日常中避免。

患者注意条件反射性癫痫：即联想诱发因素就能导致发作，如一小孩因被狗咬伤，而引起发作，那么以后，每当想起狗咬的情景，甚至见到狗时即马上出现发作。应当提出的是，对这种发作，临床上不存在理想的药物，只有将病人经常暴露在刺激的环境中，让病人逐渐适应该刺激，以达到治疗的目的。减轻患者的痛苦。
