老年羊羔疯患者应该注意病变部位存在于额顶叶、枕叶与皮层运动区关系较密切。脑血管病变主要是累及皮层者，尚未累及皮层者较少发生羊羔疯;脑瘤中以转移瘤引起羊羔疯者多见，部位多在顶枕叶交界部位，应注意查找原发肿瘤。

老年羊羔疯发作以全身强直、一阵痉挛性发作占多数(52.6%)。局限性发作合并强直、阵痉挛者也不少(28.1%)，羊羔疯持续状态(11.4%)和精神运动性发作(7.9%)均可见到。老年人晚发性羊羔疯发作期脑电图多表现慢波异常，发作性痫样放电较青少年组少见。老年人羊羔疯危险性更大，尤其大发作和羊羔疯持续状态会加重脑出血、脑缺血、缺氧和脑水肿，诱发心、肺、肾等并发症或使原来病情加重，老年人骨质疏松，更易发生跌伤骨折等，所以老人羊羔疯更应加强监护。
