2、检查面部相貌，有一些小儿因为遗传性疾病或者先天性发育障碍而导致癫痫病发作，且相貌也表现的特殊。对于这样的患者在检查的时候应该注意有无眼球过小(小角膜)、内眦距离是否过大,人中长短、下颌是否过小、外耳位置是否过低、颚弓是否过高等。

3、观察皮肤，在研究中专家发现神经皮肤综合征中有许多的疾病都合并有癫痫病，且皮肤表现明显异常，只要稍加注意就可以发现。比如结节性硬化症,在婴儿的时候皮肤就能看到白色的色素脱失斑，到5至6岁以后面部可出现血管纤维瘤。

4、查看有无运动障碍,有些脑性瘫痪病患者常常表现为姿势、肌张力及反射异常，中枢性运动障碍，运动发育落后等，这些脑性瘫痪患者常合并癫痫。

5、检查四肢以及外生殖器，继发性癫痫可能是由一些染色体异常或内分泌疾患所引起的。在四肢异常中要仔细观察：无多指(趾)或并指(趾),男孩睾丸大小,外生殖器有无异常等。

6、检查有无特殊气味:在一些氨基酸代谢异常疾病的儿童中，除有惊厥发作外，由于异常代谢物在体内增多，并由尿、汗液中排出,患者有一些特殊气味，如枫糖尿症(焦糖味)、苯丙酮尿症(鼠尿味)、高蛋氨酸血(煮白菜水味)等。
