2、意识，外部刺激由于意识，外部刺激等问题所致：当成人大脑在清醒状态时出现意识模糊时，脑电图就由α波占优势图形出现振幅降低，并很快转入涟波状态。入睡后脑波变化将进一步明显并与睡眠深度大致平行。在病理状态下，脑电图波形的异常又与病因及程度有关，除大多数表现为泛性或弥漫性波外，还可见到一些其他的异常波型。临床上常根据这些异常波型来推断意识障碍的病因、程度，还可确定病位。当受到外部刺激时，α节律即被抑制，转为低幅β波，而且精神活动越强烈，α波抑制效应就越明显，外界刺激也可引起同样的变化。这就是为什么在做脑电图时周围环境要安静，受检者要放松、不要思考问题的缘故。所以两者很密切。

3、年龄因素因年龄个体差异所致：随着人体的不同阶段的脑部生长情况来看，小儿可以观察到随年龄增加的脑波发展变化，由于小儿时期脑兴奋抑制机制发育水平的年龄差异，因而对内、外界各种因素影响的反应较成人显著，容易出现明显的脑波异常，而且异常的范围也较广泛，但相应的消失也较成人快。到老年期由于有脑缺血性损害或有脑萎缩存在，大多数也会出现有意义的脑波异常。关于脑波的个体差异多在1岁后出现，并随年龄的增加而逐渐增加，至成人时脑波差异已相当显著。
