其次是脑变性疾病：大脑变性疾病如Pick病和阿尔茨海默氏病为老年前期痴呆的原因，其病理变化为脑萎缩，可伴癫痫发作。脑部感染：在各种脑炎、脑膜炎及脑脓肿的急性期，因充血、水肿、毒素和渗出的刺激，均可引起癫痫发作。痊愈以后，疤痕和粘连可成为发生癫痫的原因。患者要多加注意了。

另外还有脑肿瘤：在50～60岁以后开始发作的癫痫中，除外伤外，小脑幕上肿瘤也是zui常见的病因之一，尤其是生长较慢的肿瘤，如胶质瘤、星形细胞瘤、脑膜瘤等;此外，其他部位肿瘤，形成转移性脑肿瘤也是老年人癫痫发作的原因，其患病率高于年轻人。有时癫痫发作是肿瘤的首发症状，应当引起重视。
