在病情得到控制之后，到达老年癫痫康复减药期，患者要分清主次、逐渐减药、完全康复。是在经过以上两个时期的治疗，中医望、闻、问、切之病态症候完全恢复正常、复查脑电图两次以上均正常、癫痫再没有发作过，符合癫痫康复标准，断定确为康复而开始有计划有步骤地减少药量，直至患者完全摆脱用药，此期大约为半年至一年的时间，当然也可能会比较短。

在癫痫患者病情得到控制之后，也不要忙着停药，老年癫痫固期需要合理用药、调理巩固、防止反复。就是在癫痫不再发作的基础上，针对癫痫病易反复的特点，注重病体的整体调理，增强病人的抗病能力，巩固疗效，使之不再复发，远期疗效可靠，此期较长，一般为两年以上。因此，患者应对此有充分认识和精神上准备，坚持不懈，在医师指导下，合理用药，认真配合，避免病情反复。
