(一)癫痫本身

(二)抗癫痫药物的副作用

抗癫痫药物如苯巴比妥、苯妥英、卡马西平、安定类药物等，均可引起患儿行为异常。加巴喷丁作为辅助用药，给予7例癫痫儿童之后，患儿原有异常行为加重、或出现新的异常行为，但减量或停药后消失。但也有抗癫痫药物如卡马西平，丙戊酸及拉莫三嗪，改善行为的报道。抗癫痫药物影响行为的机制仍不清楚。

(三)家庭、社会对癫痫儿童的态度

不少学者研究发现，家长在孩子被诊断为癫痫后，产生焦虑、抑郁情绪及母亲的癫痫知识水平和对患儿的态度，是影响患儿心理状态的重要因素。老师或其他人由于缺乏癫痫知识而对患儿的表现不理解、责难、甚至歧视或戏弄，与癫痫儿童的心理行为异常密切相关。
