患者可出现癫痫性的朦胧状态，这种情况不同于意识的丧失，患者在发作时可出现意识模糊，并且其范围缩小变得狭窄，患者的行为一般都比较正常，但是会出现一些幻觉、错觉，这种情况通常可持续数分钟至数小时不等。

患者在癫痫的大发作时期，突然的丧失意识，尖叫着向后仰倒，口吐白沫，呼吸停止，咬破唇舌，面色苍白，大小便失禁等。这些都是癫痫早期有什么表现的症状。这种症状往往会持续5-10分钟，然后症状消失，恢复正常，对发作时的情况毫无记忆。

突然意识丧失，继之先强直后阵挛性痉挛，常伴尖叫，面色青紫，尿失禁，舌咬伤，口吐白沫或血沫，瞳孔散大，后痉挛发作自然停止，进入昏睡状态，醒后有短时间的头昏，烦躁，疲乏，对发作过程不能回忆，常危及生命。
