但是，癫痫药物治疗主张是单药治疗，让医生根据患者的病情和检查结果来对症下药，看具体的癫痫病患者的病情适合什么样的药物，什么样的药物对癫痫患者的治疗效果能够达到最好。从小剂量开始，如果单药无效，可考虑加用或换用另一种抗癫痫药，万万不可将多种抗癫痫西药掺在一起用，这样有可能导致癫痫的耐药，并且增加副作用的发生。如确实认为一种药物对该病人无效或副作用过大，需更换另一种药物时，须逐渐替换。
