一、内因：遗传因素或特异体质决定的脑惊厥阈值低，为癫痫病的易发人群，这是引发癫痫的原因之一。

二、外因：各种原因所致大脑损伤，包括：①胚胎期脑形成异常;②产伤窒息、产钳、吸引术、严重感染等;③脑血管病：脑血栓、脑出血、脑血管痉挛、脑血管畸形、脑动脉硬化等;④脑外伤：意外损伤或手术致闭合性、开放性脑外伤;⑤脑部感染：各种脑炎、脑膜炎、脑脓肿等及其后遗症;⑥中毒：常为各种药物中毒;⑦代谢障碍：糖代谢障碍、低血糖、尿毒症、肝昏迷等是引发癫痫的原因。

三、诱因：①过度疲劳;②饥饿;③暴饮暴食;④精神刺激、惊吓恐惧;⑤发热;⑥失眠;⑦过度换气;⑧饮酒;⑨药物诱发;⑩过强的声、光、电、气味刺激。
