　　首先，我们先来简单的了解一下什么是老年癫痫。毕竟对症下药才能药到病除嘛!老年癫痫一般临床表现比较复杂，发作类型各家报告不一，因此老年癫痫还是以具体的临床表现为主。对于老年癫痫的治疗，除了病因治疗之外，有时还需坚持的服用抗癫痫的药物。而且单一的用药效果是大于联合用药的，而且药量适合逐渐的增加。但是大部分的老年人都肝肾的功能异常，因此患者在进行抗癫痫药物治疗时，需要加以注意，一定要避免一些可能会对脏器造成危害或者不良影响的药物。

　　一般来说，目前最常选用的药物包括传统抗癫痫药中的卡马西平丙戊酸钠等新型抗癫痫药如拉莫三嗪托吡酯奥卡西平等这些抗癫痫药物比苯妥英.钠苯巴比妥等。这些老品牌的药物不仅安全性比较高，而且副作用比较小，是癫痫患者十分理想的不二之选。如果患者在用这些药物的话，那么就一定要注意要从小剂量开始用单药，如果服用短期感觉并无效果，那么就要再换药服用。而且在替换用药的过程中一定要遵循逐渐替换的原则。
