出现了上述情况，唯一的办法是服用抗癫痫药物。既要控制发作，又力求做到优生，同时还要最大限度地减少抗癫痫药物的毒副作用对胎儿的影响。解决的办法，总的原则是，经医生检查，癫痫发作控制较好，妊娠前期不至于出现影响妊娠发作的患者，最好停用抗癫痫药物，非用药不可的，要尽量减少剂量，把剂量控制在最低有效剂量。注意药物选择，一定要选用毒副作用最小，无明显致畸作用的药物。从整体上说，妊娠期间使用抗癫痫中药对孕妇和胎儿的安全系数更大些。患者还应该注意补充适量的维生素和微量元素，包括叶酸等等，保证充足的营养摄入，保证充足的睡眠，还要注意远离烟酒等等。
