1、过敏反应

癫痫患者服用抗癫痫药物发生过敏反应时间大部分在开始服药的第二、三周，少数发生于其它时间。患者身上出现红疹子(荨麻疹、风疹)，四肢、躯干或脸上都可能发生，而且会痒，一旦出现这种过敏反应，应立即停药并找医师，改用另外的抗癫痫药物，如果疹子出得很厉害，应进行适当的治疗;如果继续服用此过敏的药，可能会演变成更严重的反应，发生剥皮性皮肤炎，严重的可能会造成生命危险。如果出现对药物发生过敏的情况-，患者及家属应向医师问清药名，以后看病别忘了告诉其它医师，以免后者又给你过敏的药剂。

2、神经精神症状

神经精神症状副作用的发生与抗癫痫药物用药剂量有关，昏睡、嗜睡等症状较为常见。抗癫痫药物大多可引起昏睡。大部分的药在减量后可使嗜睡现象减轻或消失;有些可在嗜睡消失后再慢慢加量;或一开始由小量逐渐增加，就不会发生嗜睡现象;有些则减到不出现嗜睡的剂量时，无法控制发作，则应考虑忍受轻微的副作用或改服他种药品。大量中毒的话，则可能使患者昏迷不醒，需要紧急送医。

3、内脏功能损害

内脏功能损害主要是指肾脏、肝脏功能损害，另外，此类药物还会破坏患者骨髓的造血功能，因此，服用具有内脏损害副作用的抗癫痫药物患者，应定期检查肝肾功能和血球数量，当患者具有疲劳感，腿脚出现水肿，小便呈茶褐色以及刷牙时易出血等症状时，应立即向医生寻求帮助。
