心藏神，肾藏精主髓，脾运中焦，肝主疏泄而调畅气机，可见脑与心、肝、肾、脾诸脏功能相关。

先天因素命门伏邪，或由于父母禀赋或孕产调养不当，胎气受损，或者脏气不平，或者气机逆乱，脏腑功能失调。脾肾虚而生痰，肝气旺而生风。

痰浊内生饮食不节，过食醇酒肥甘，损伤脾胃，脾失健运，聚湿生痰;或气郁化火，火邪炼津成痰，积痰内伏，一遇诱因，痰浊或随气逆，或因火炎，或随风动，蒙蔽心神心窍，发为痫证，故有“无痰不作痫”说。不洁饮食，虫阻脑窍，因虫而致风动，也是引发痫证之因。七情失调主要责之于惊恐。突受大惊大恐，造成气机逆乱，进而损伤脏腑，肝肾受损，则致阴不敛阳而生痰生风。脾胃受损.

【西医病因病机】西医根据癫痫病因不同分成特发性癫痫和继发性(症状性)癫痫两大类。前者指这类患者的脑病并无可以解释症状的结构变化或代谢异常，而与遗传因素有较密切的关系。症状性癫痫因于多种脑部病损和代谢障碍，如先天性疾病、产前期和围生期疾病(产伤是婴儿期癫痫的常见病因)、高热惊厥后遗、外伤、感染、中毒、颅内肿瘤、脑血管疾病、营养代谢性疾病等。癫痫的产生与神经元异常放电相关。

人体休息时，一个大脑皮质锥体细胞的放电频率一般保持在1～10次/秒之间，而在癫痫病灶中，一组病态神经元的放电频率可高达每秒数百次。痫灶细胞群高频重复放电，使其轴突所直接联系的神经元产生较大的突触后电位，从而产生连续传播，直至抑制作用(包括痫性周围抑制性神经细胞的活动，胶质细胞对兴奋性物质的回收，以及病灶外抑制机构的参与)使发作终止。由于传播途径及范围不同而引起各种形式发作。

痫性活动可能仅牵涉一个区域的大脑皮质而不再扩散，引起单纯部分性发作;兴奋在前中央回或后中央回通过放电后细胞外钾离子的增多而传导到邻近神经元，造成杰克逊(Jackson)癫痫;痫性活动常由大脑皮质通过下行投射纤维传播到丘脑和中脑网状结构，引起意识丧失，再由弥散性丘脑投射系统传布到整个大脑皮质，产生继发的全面性强直一阵挛发作。
