在服用方法上应主张小剂量开始，逐渐加量即使增量也不应太快，以免产生不良反应。长期用药需定期复查血象、尿常规及肝肾功能。有条件者应定期进行血药物浓度监测。由于老年人羊癫疯中有脑的损害和与年龄有关的变化，因此可以推测，老年人的药代动力学的敏感性增高，药物浓度治疗范围的上限应该向下调整。

羊癫疯持续状态的治疗对老年人羊癫疯持续状态。应特别注意老年患者呼吸、意识、血压的改变。

中医治疗羊癫疯总的法则是：消除病因，控制发作，巩固疗效，防止复发。消除病因要有针对性，有热清热，有疾逐疾，有瘀化瘀，有风熄风，有惊镇惊，有虫驱虫等;控制发作主要以平降逆气;巩固疗效，防止复发则以调整脏腑、经络、气血功能，重在补脾肾。
