其实，它是连续、发作频繁，一般持续半小时或连续多次发作，发作间期意识不恢复。癫痫持续状态若在1～2小时内不制止，可危及生命而死亡，或造成永久性脑损害。常以尖叫开始，突然意识丧失，摔倒，肌肉呈对称性强直性抽动，头、眼转向一侧，口角偏斜，口吐白色泡沫，舌唇咬破，大小便失禁，发作停止时如正常人，但有头痛、疲乏、肌肉酸痛等，暂不能记忆发作时的情况。

人们对癫痫常识了解的并不多。癫痫是一种反复发作的一种疾病，它的持续状态分为以下几种类型。1、全身性癫痫持续状态a、全身性惊厥性癫痫持续状态或强直-阵挛持续状态。b、在多次全身强直-阵挛发作时，两次相邻发作间意识并不恢复。这是通常所说的疾病持续状态，为癫痫发作的严重状况。2、全身性非惊厥性持续状态(失神状态)a、持续数小时或甚至数天的意识模糊。b、脑电图有持续的棘-慢波或多棘-慢波，往往为节律性，有时出现慢波，但很少为3Hz棘-慢波。除了上面一些癫痫持续状态以外，它还表现在：部分性癫痫持续状a、反复发作癫痫：反复的抽搐由某一部分肌肉开始向身体其他部分扩延时。b、部分性癫痫连续发作：非常局限的运动性癫痫连续不断的发作，如面部肌肉连续不断的抽搐，可持续数小时、数天、甚至数月。总之，该疾病为一比较广泛的名词、各种癫痫发作反复连续发生时都称为癫痫持续状态，实际上最多见为全身强直-阵挛发作或大发作的持续状态。

医生指出，癫痫的诊断要点(1)癫痫大发作前常有感觉迟钝、肢体颤搐、心悸、出汗、妄想、幻觉等先兆。(2)可有惊厥发作的临床表现。(3)癫痫大发作有短期内频繁发作，且在每次发作后意识有恢复或一次发作持续30分钟以上者，称为癫痫持续状态。(4)部分病人可出现大汗、高热。(5)严重病人可因脑水肿致脑疝及呼吸、循环功能障碍。
