(1)脑功能的损害：癫痫每发作一次，脑细胞损害一次，长期的癫痫反复发作，患者会智能下降，最后逐渐丧失工作能力，甚至生活能力。(2)意外伤亡：因癫痫是不论时间、地点、环境又不能自我控制突然发作倒地，容易出现摔伤、烫伤、溺水、交通事故。(3)精神创伤：因癫痫病经常发作给患者就业、婚姻、家庭生活均带来影响，因而癫痫患者精神活动较压抑，身心健康受到很大影响，所以对癫痫病应采取及时、有效的办法进行治疗。

癫痫灶的定位最关键

癫痫活动灶的准确定位可使医生的注意力集中在切除癫痫病灶或阻断癫痫放电的扩散途径上。癫痫外科手术成功的关键是癫痫灶的准确定位。头颅CT与MRI扫描已成为癫痫病人检查的常规，特别是MRI扫描不仅要包括T1，T2像，还要进行Flair扫描和常规的海马冠状扫描，其主要目的是发现颅内异常结构病灶，排除肿瘤、血管病等病变，但仅20%的癫痫能够通过MRI或CT等结构影象检查确认病理灶定位，同时通常病理灶与癫痫灶不吻合或不完全吻合。无论是否存在结构性病灶，确定引起癫痫发作的功能性致痫灶是最重要的。

　虽然颅内任何部位损伤都可引起癫痫，但额后、顶叶与弥漫性脑损伤所引起的癫痫明显高于其他部位。晚期癫痫可在伤后一个月至数年之内发生，最长者达20年之久。但绝大多数病人发生在伤后半年至3年之间。一般认为伤后4年之内不发生癫痫，以后发病的机会大大减少。
